Oh Deer, what a window!

I walked into the foyer today to be welcomed by this!  A Vintage Finds oeil-de-boeuf being used as a frame for a deers head!  Eye-catching!  I have seen them repurposed as frames and mirrors, but never something this fun!

I love the window displays at the Woolloongabba Antique Centre (where I have 'Vintage Finds').  As you know, the antique centre is a mix of dealers who bring their own personal styles of collecting and selecting.  Furniture which ranges from classically designed from Denmark or to mid-century commercial from the USA.  Glass collections, Tiffany jewellery specialists, painted furniture, vintage kitchen wares.  The front displays and in the windows at the antique centre, are an ever changing eclectic juxtaposition of so much of this put together in a vignette!

And before I go on, I can hear you say as you read this - 'an oeil-de-what?'

An oeil-de-boeuf is the french architectural term for the round or oval windows on the top most floors of Parisian roofs (translation: bull's eye).

You can seen them elsewhere in France of course, but they are most recognisable as the baroque ornamentation around the little attic windows protruding from the zinc roof as you walk the streets of Paris.

Asking around, I have managed to find a sheet of lovely original old mirror, in a storage shed at my framers!, and so am able to give you some contacts should you wish to have this beautiful original zinc piece from France, repurposed as a feature mirror.

Weekend Sale

Friday Flowers

After a crazy start to our day today, I decided to change my plans and opted for something enjoyable - a trip to the flower markets.

We had arrived early to school, perfectly dressed in pressed uniform, to discover it was 'St Patrick's Day Free Dress' day.   Not sure how we missed the note, but we did.  After zooming home again, madly flying through the drawers to find some clothes that fit the requirements of being both "clean" and also "green", we eventually found something in big brother's closet that was passable, un-ironed, but that kind of fit if you didn't look too closely at the shoulders!  So back to school, quick pit stop for a hot chocolate to calm our nerves, and we made it before everyone walked out of assembly!  Whew!

After this high adrenaline exercise, I certainly no longer felt like the 'stocktake' that I had planned!  And opted instead for a tidy and a freshen up at the Woolloongabba shop.  And what better than with some bright flowers!

Coming this week....

Stock has been getting a little low in my Woolloongabba store of late.  A flurry of buying at auctions and overseas suppliers means I am getting back on track!

These haven't arrived yet, but I am checking deliveries daily....forgive me but I couldn't wait to share!

Quite a few of the vintage chairs, lighting and little one-off pieces I source for clients, don't make it to the shop floor.  If it is for a special order, once I have sourced the piece it usually gets delivered directly to my client, and so the shop customers don't always see some of the great things I've managed to source.

The letter press wood blocks below were a special order for a client who has gone with something else.  My gain though, as now I'll be able to put this in the shop.  It's a complete set of 40 wood blocks.  All the letters, numbers and punctuation shown in the photo.  The patina is different on each as they have been in use.

Danger sign... why? ... just because I couldn't resist.

Love the letter "T" and the vintage '50s typewriter to the side reminds me that I have one that needs cleaning to put in the store.  Ahhh.. best get on to that!
