Some recent finds ....

Some things I've found for customers lately that have not made it to the store.

Pair of chinese lanterns with wire basket, chinese newspaper print and wooden painted bases.  Will be wired as pendant lights, and to be used as two hanging bedside lights.

Great set of large drawers in a beautiful turquoise colour.  Colour is 'original' to when it was rescued from an old government building being removed from underneath the Storey Bridge, Brisbane.  Chippy paint has been sanded back.  Would look great with my own vintage over-dyed rug in my lounge room but client had first dibs!

My lounge: turquoise vintage overdyed rug, painted bergere, wooden chateau table, and my favourite - green hydrangeas in vase.

And this beautiful Louis Philippe era Oeil-de-Boeuf for a client.

These are 'typically French' window frames from the upper attic or roof on a building.  Great architectural piece if you have somewhere to use it!  Made from zinc, so properly 'outdoor grade', is to be used over a fireplace in an outdoor seating area.

Bench Seat for a Boot Room

I was looking for a bench seat for the bootroom to finish off this space, as it just needed somewhere for everyone to perch.

I managed to find this piece at a local supplier.  (Yes, sshhh! it is new and not vintage!)  And it's available to order if you should like it too!

I just loved the hessian-covered look and the dimensions (1500mm long, 500mm deep) work so well for this spot - a necessity for the boys to sit somewhere while they hoist on trainers, rugby boots and school shoes.

And to be frank, with that finish, this piece is perfect for the knocks and scrapes it is likely to get in this room!

I was originally looking at this wood and iron bench seat.  Which I also love for it's simple rustic charm.  It would probably have been my preferred option, but at 2400mm long it would completely fill the space and I think look too cramped.  And so I am happy with the choice I have made.

French Bergères

French bergère chairs seem to be having a resurgence at the moment - and for those of us who squirrel away our antiques - our time has come that they are 'in vogue' again!  At the moment I seem to see them everywhere.....

I noticed that colourful design maven and fellow Brisbane girl Anna Spiro has them covered in a beige linen in her showroom full of bright and light.

And these look equally at home in the world of beige, white and wood, such as this newly built Spanish villa (via ArchiThings.Com).

I love my neutrals with a punch of colour and have just recovered mine, and am enjoying them so much now they are in neutral linens. 

I have recovered them with two fabrics - the front being a tighter weave and good fabric weight for constant use, and the back a lighter weave fabric to resemble an upholsterer's hessian.

Pretty Louis XV Bergère c1920

I have been searching for some pretty French Louis XV style bergeres for a client for awhile and - at last! - found some lovely ones to fit the bill!  Aren't they so sweet?

The fabric is the original silk brocade and still in fantastic condition.  Yet, the price was great - and so if my client changes her mind on the colour, it still works to re-upholster them in another fabric down the line.  I love finding something that makes my clients so happy!
